Running This Christian Race

BEING SAVED is an event that occurs when we confess Jesus as our Lord and Savior. LIVING SAVED is a process, a lifelong journey, where each day we grow a little more as we allow Christ to make His home in our hearts through faith. (Ephesians 3:16-19).

*********************

This process of living the life of a Christian can be compared to RUNNING A RACE, as Paul put it in Hebrews 12:1Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and Let us run with patience the race that is set before us”.

As Christians, each of us has a race to run. This race, however, is a different kind of race. This race is more than a competition, more than a sporting event; it’s a race with ETERNAL implicationsIT’S A SPRINT TO OUR DESTINY!

Like any successful athlete, we must become disciplined and we must stay in shape. So when we run this Christian race, we too must get in shape; we must tone up our Spiritual Bodies…

WE MUST EXERCISE!

(James 1:25; 1 Peter 2:1-3)

  • Read God’s Word for instruction, for knowledge and for understanding. Read it every day, until it is in your heart. (Psalm 119:130; James 1:21; 1 Peter 1:23)

  • Pay attention to the Holy Spirit (John 6:63; 10:27; 14:26; Romans 5:5; 15:13)

  • Do what you KNOW - Love one another; pray for others, including your enemies. (John 13:34-35; 1 Peter1:22; Hebrews 10:23-25)

  • Guard the door to your eyes, ears and your heart. (Psalm 139:23-24; Psalm 143:10; Philippians 3:13-16; Colossians 3:1-3; 1 Peter 5:6-9)

  • Keep on Praying (Psalm 145:18; Ephesians 6:17-18; Philippians 4:6; Matthew:7:7-8)

  • Keep on Praising (Psalm 67:3-4; 147:1; 150; 1 Peter 2:9)

  • Don’t stop; don’t sit down - NO “Drop-Outs (Galatians 6:9; James 1:2-4;12; Revelations 3:11) SO RUN THE RACE SET BEFORE YOU. Slow out of the blocks? It’s okay..keep on running. Trip and fall in the first turn? Doesn’t matter..the race isn’t over. Disheartened by an unexpected obstacle? Keep going..you can make it.

THE ALL-POWERFUL GOD RUNS WITH YOU! Romans 8:31-32; 1 Corinthians 10:13; 1 John 4:4
